British Geological Survey

Founded in 1835, the British Geological Survey (BGS) is the world's oldest national geological survey and the United Kingdom's premier centre for earth science information and expertise. BGS provides expert services and impartial advice in all areas of geoscience. Its client base is drawn from the public and private sectors both in the UK and internationally.

BGS is headquartered at Keyworth, near Nottingham, with regional offices at Edinburgh, Wallingford, London and Cardiff. The BGS also has a presence in Belfast through the Geological Survey of Northern Ireland.

In June 2008 - East Midlands sixth formers get the chance to take part in a fictional planning inquiry in a demanding educational day run by the British Geological Survey at its Keyworth headquarters.
