Cllr Neil Pinder

Neil Pinder

I am Keyworth born & bred and indeed, I live in the same house in which I was born though I lived away for several years in the 1970s. I am a Chartered Environmentalist with a degree from the OU that I got in my forties. I work as a Design Engineer with Severn Trent Water and I expect to be doing so for a few years yet as I still have school-age children. I have assisted with the management of Keyworth Meadow since my eldest daughter, then aged seven, fell in love with the place in 2000. My years away from Keyworth were partly spent as a nature reserve warden on the Sussex coast and it is natural history that has always been my main interest so helping out in the Meadow is a pleasure and a privilege. You may have seen my ramblings in the Keyworth Diary and Local News, the latter articles being designed to promote awareness of the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust with which I’m also involved via our local group.

I applied for co-option to the Council after careful thought and consideration and only when I had the confidence that I would give it my full and long-term commitment. I intend to be present when new initiatives and changes come along, so that I can have my say as a resident who holds the characteristics of Keyworth to heart.

Nature depends on a healthy environment and there is a growing realisation that we do too and one of my priorities will be to see that Keyworth’s built environment, its open spaces and its surrounding countryside, give a feel-good factor that resonates through to us all.

As well as reserve warden and before settling down to regular employment, I worked as a land surveyor, a farmhand, a mate on a trawler, a mate on a drilling rig, a pest controller and a deliverer of vegetables. What relevance does that have? Well, I hope it made me versatile and understanding of a broad range of people and issues and that you will see me as someone you can talk to – I promise to listen.
