Cllr Neil Pinder

I am Keyworth born & bred and indeed, I live in the same house in which I was born though I lived away for several years in the 1970s. I am a Chartered Environmentalist with a degree from the OU that I got in my forties. I took early retirement (i.e. I was made redundant!) in 2000 from my work as a Design Engineer with Severn Trent Water though with A level / Uni age daughters I'm in the employment market. I have assisted with the management of Keyworth Meadow since my eldest daughter, then aged seven, fell in love with the place in 2000. My years away from Keyworth were partly spent as a nature reserve warden on the Sussex coast and it is natural history that has always been my main interest so helping out in the Meadow is a pleasure and a privilege. I'm involved with several other wildlife initiatives including surveys of moths, butterflies, birds and reptiles and help out with the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Trust; I'm treasurer to the South Notts Group.
I became a Councillor after careful thought and consideration and only when I had the confidence that I would give it my full and long-term commitment. I intend to be present when new initiatives and changes come along, so that I can have my say as a resident who holds the characteristics of Keyworth to heart.
Nature depends on a healthy environment and there is a growing realisation that we do too and one of my priorities is to see that Keyworth's built environment, its open spaces and its surrounding countryside, give a feel-good factor that resonates through to us all.
As well as reserve warden and before settling down to regular employment, I worked as a land surveyor, a farmhand, a mate on a trawler, a mate on a drilling rig, a pest controller and a deliverer of vegetables. What relevance does that have? Well, I hope it made me versatile and understanding of a broad range of people and issues and that you will see me as someone you can talk to – I will represent your views to the best of my ability.
