Cllr Sheila Kingdom
Born and brought up in West Bridgford, I lived in Keyworth from 1963-69, going to Rushcliffe Grammar School for Girls/Comprehensive School.
My parents continued to live in the village; my brother and his family have always lived locally, and I have been a consistent visitor since I left to go to Loughborough Art College, after which I worked briefly on the Wirral.
I returned to live in Nottingham where I trained as a nurse at Nottingham City Hospital and General Hospital, and subsequently as a District Nurse, when I moved to Wollaton and worked as a District Nurse across the city before having my twin boys. I was a Sister and first aid trainer at the University Health Centre until the birth of my daughter, who has complex health needs.
After taking a teaching and computer course I resumed work part time, as a Parish Secretary to the Rector and Wollaton Parochial Church Council, serving as a PCC member for some time, and my nursing career full time, as a nurse and subsequently as a clinical manager, for a specialist neurology service in the north west of England, devising and delivering specific training programmes for the organisation’s staff teams and other organisations in the area, and developing management skills.
Returning to Keyworth in 2007, I was deputy manager of a care home for elderly people with dementia in Radcliffe-on-Trent before setting up a specialist residential service for young adults with autistic spectrum disorder, in the north of the county.
Keyworth has developed in the years I have been away, becoming a vibrant, diverse community with a broad and developing range of facilities.
People enjoy living here and feel that they are able to be involved in shaping its future, this must be due, in part, to a vibrant pro-active Council.
I hope that perhaps I can make a contribution.
