Note: Elaine has been co-opted to the Parish Council with effect from 28.11.11.

I have lived in Keyworth for the past 30 years, and it is the village where my two children have grown up and attended the local schools. I myself have been a primary school teacher, working for many years in the city of Nottingham, but finishing my last 13 years full time teaching in Kinoulton. However, I still enjoy the challenge of teaching young minds, and work for one and a half days each week at a school in West Bridgford.

I am actively involved in voluntary work, and volunteered at the Skylarks shop in Radcliffe for many years. However, I was also a member of the Friends of QMC, and to help boost their funds, a friend and myself set up the charity shop on Wolds Drive in Keyworth. This has been running very successfully for 5 years under our management. There is a pool of 35 volunteers working on rotas, and we have raised many thousands of pounds to fund vital equipment and projects at the QMC not covered by NHS funding, for the benefit of patients, staff and visitors.

As well as education, I have always been interested in the environment. We have had many dogs and cats over the years, and as a dog walker I have enjoyed the beauty of the countryside around the village. I feel passionate about protecting the countryside, but at the same time balancing this with the need to provide affordable housing for young people to maintain the vitality of our village.
