Planning

  • New Planning Rules

As from 1 October there will be new rules in respect of the types of development that a householder can carry out without planning permission.

These changes are intended to make it easier to improve a dwelling by relaxing planning controls on smaller extensions. It also introduces new controls over hard surfaces such as driveways, aimed at reducing water run-off which contributes to flooding.

The changes will apply to any new development commenced from 1 October onwards and householders are advised to complete the Council’s Householder Enquiry form to find out if permission is needed.

The Planning Inspectorate has given the go-ahead for the Wright's Garage and 24-30 Selby Lane application for 48 apartments.

Planning: How is the Parish involved?

Centre Tower Keyworth

The Parish Council is consulted on all planning applications for Keyworth. These come mainly from Rushcliffe Borough Council, but occasionally we receive them from Nottinghamshire County Council. The Parish Council Planning Committee does not have powers to accept or reject applications, but our views are considered when the application is determined by the relevant authority.

We also contribute views on Local Area and Regional Strategies on subjects such as housing, transport, environment and employment.

What about the residents?

Residents may attend the Planning meetings, which are public and usually take place on the first Monday of the month. Interested parties will be given time to address the committee in relation to their support or objection to a planning application. Written comments received by the Planning Committee in advance of a meeting are also helpful.

The Planning Chairman is happy to discuss any matters in relation to a proposed plan and may be contacted via the Parish Council Office or on 0115 937 3763. Do remember that you may also contact your Borough Councillors and the Officers of the Planning Department at Rushcliffe BC.

To view pending planning applications for Keyworth, you can search the Rushcliffe Planning database on their website or arrange to see the plans at the Civic Centre and at the Keyworth Parish Council Office.

Keyworth Conservation Area

In 1999, the heart of the village, mainly centred along Main Street, was designated as a historical conservation area. The Conservation Area Advisory Group meets regularly during the year to discuss and organise enhancements, reporting its recommendations to the Planning Committee for approval.

Currently, the Advisory Group is involved with the local Rotary Club in producing two heritage information boards for the conservation area. These will be jointly funded by the Parish Council and Rotary.
