Cllr Neil Breward

Born and raised in Stoke-on-Trent, I have lived in Keyworth since December 1989, when I transferred here from London. I am married to Kate, and have a daughter at South Wolds School in Keyworth. Having gained a degree in Geology and Chemistry at Manchester University I worked for the British Geological Survey as an environmental geochemist, initially in London and then in Keyworth, for over 34 years. I gained a PhD in environmental geochemistry and also did an Ecology course with the Open University while working for BGS. During my BGS career I worked both in the UK and for short periods in various far-flung parts of the world. Now semi-retired, I currently work part-time as an online scientific editor.

A committed democratic socialist and environmentalist, as a Labour Party member I am dedicated to building a fairer, safer and 'greener', sustainable society. I have become very fond of Keyworth since I moved here, and hope to maintain its many fine attributes while trying to improve other issues such as the imbalance with regards to genuinely affordable housing, and maintaining local employment capacity. My professional knowledge contributes to my opposition to the possible development of 'Fracking' in the area. I am proud to serve our village on the Parish Council.

In my 'spare' time I am keen on bird-watching and natural history in general, developing a wildlife-friendly garden, listening to (and playing) folk and rock music, and restoring vintage radio sets. I also have an allotment on the Selby Lane site, and both Kate and I have been members of the successful Allotments Team in the Village Quiz for the past five years.

2 Intake Road, Keyworth, NG12 5LE.
