The Liberal Democrats are a progressive party that is independent of any vested interests and that represents the aims, aspirations and values of ordinary people. We believe in social justice, open government and the freedom of the individual. We strongly support the concepts of freedom, fairness and trust. Constitutional and electoral reform is also high on our list of cherished aims.

Liberal Democrat councillors continue to provide constructive and socially-responsible opposition on Rushcliffe Borough Council and Nottinghamshire County Council. Unlike some other parties, our party decides on its policies through its members at local level and then mandates its national leadership to adopt these policies.

Service to the community is top of our priorities, and we frequently take a prominent role in campaigning on local issues. In Keyworth, Liberal Democrats have for many years been active as Borough Councillors and as independent members of the Parish Council. We have been active in developing the Neighbourhood Plan, paving the way for much-needed affordable housing in our village. We led the successful campaign against a large new supermarket in Selby Lane and worked with the developer to build the homes that you now see in Wright's Place. We took a leading role in saving Keyworth Leisure Centre from threatened closure, and we worked for 4 years to re-establish an advice centre in Keyworth.

Whilst being very active politically, the party also offers opportunities for members to meet socially, to organise a variety of events, and to take part in the whole spectrum of activities, ranging from leaflet delivery right up to national campaigning.
